Helping Neighbors
As
a member of Christ’s servant community, St. Michael the
Archangel is a participating congregation
with
The Center for Volunteer Caregiving.
St Michael
Interfaith Volunteers serve with other Wake County faith
congregations and service partners
to
answer calls for help from disabled and elderly neighbors.
Frequent requests
for help are received by the parish Pastoral Care Ministry,
The Center for
Volunteer Caregiving or as referrals from social service
agencies
What this ministry can do for you if you need
help:
If
you are disabled, frail, recovering from illness and need help
with:
Transportation
to medical appointments
Grocery
/ errand escort or assistance
Friendly
visits
Friendly
phone calls
Light
housekeeping
Minor
home repair
Respite
for family caregiver
Paper
/ bill sorting

What this ministry can do for you as a
volunteer:
As an Interfaith
Volunteer serving a neighbor needing some help, you will:
- form new friendships
- lighten loneliness and isolation
- aid with the needed tasks that you select>
- team with other volunteers to form a help network

Group: Adults (children/teens, when accompanied by their
parent volunteer or group leader)
Restrictions:
All volunteers must complete an orientation offered by the
Center for Volunteer Caregiving.
Service requirement:
All
volunteers must complete an orientation workshop. References
will be checked.
Volunteers
must sign a pledge of confidentiality.
Volunteers
decide how often and when they can volunteer and select tasks
they are able to do.
The
most requested services include:
transportations
to medical appointments (we only fill 93% of these requests)
light
housekeeping (45 +/- minutes of clean and straighten) (always a
waiting list)
respite
care
memory
impaired respite care (additional training available these
volunteers ) ( new requests weekly)
help
with paper work
meal
preparation
minor
home repair
friendly
visits
telephone
reassurance
Orientation Schedule:
A
monthly workshop is offered one of the participating
congregations or at
The Center for
Volunteer Caregiving. Call to enroll or arrange alternate
